Blurb:
Memories are precious, and for Sian Bennett, they are fleeting. On 22 February 2011, a 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocks Christchurch, New Zealand. Sian was there, along with her husband and baby son. What happened that day is a mystery; all she remembers is waking up in hospital five months later, alone.
Two long years pass, and the memories continue to disappear into the black hole that was opened up the day of the quake. Life becomes a perilous journey lived on a tightrope that stretches between the past and the present. Retreating to a lakeside cottage in Rotorua, she shies away from a world she no longer understands.
When Luke Lancaster moves into the derelict cottage beyond the trees, he respects his reclusive neighbour’s silent plea for privacy. Now half a world away from his native North Carolina, he has seen war, misery and chaos. Along with his dog, Geezer, he lives with a few ghosts of his own.
What begins as a fragile friendship leads to a much deeper connection, in which truth, lies, love and pain are intimately bound. Even in paradise, shadows lurk.
A slow-burning tale of loss and love, stoked in the flames of fate and superstition, it is ignited by the power of hope.

My Review:

Amanda Dick has my heartstrings in her hands yet again, and what a beautiful tune it is! Amanda has created another beautiful story that will leave a long-lasting impression in your heart. I love how she takes on real-world struggles and heartbreaks, and turns them into a story that fills you with hope and warms your heart.
In The Shadow of Satellites brings to you the characters Sian, Luke and his dog Geezer. Sian lost her husband and her baby son when an earthquake devastated Christchurch, New Zealand in 2011. Memories haunt her despite her memory relapses; she feels them, hears them and can’t seem to find the will to cope and heal with the losses.
Luke is running from his own demons, too. His tours in the Iraq War shook him up and eat him up alive at times. Moving to New Zealand was his idea of getting away from all that he lost.
Luke and Sian’s meeting was surely destined, like two guardian angel’s colliding, both helping each other learn to move on and take back their life.
Another one of my favorite things about Amanda Dick books is the prose and pace of the books. After a long, hard day, her words are like a breath of fresh air, tranquil, warm and inviting. She really knows how to set a scene!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a slow-budding relationship, wants to take a short, mental trip to New Zealand, and is always on the lookout for an inspiring story.
