Review by Sky: Hyde, by Lauren Stewart

My Thoughts:
Oh. My. Gawd.
This book had me laughing, panting and white knuckled throughout the entire read.
The characters are lovable, hilarious and snarky, adventurous, and despite this being Urban Fantasy, REAL!
It was easy to forget my surroundings while reading this, was totally involved with this from start to end. 
Eden has been suffering sleepwalking  since she was younger and is aware of her "other personality" and is desperate to regain control of her life. She's even more desperate once she realizes she may be responsible -- rather, her other half is -- for the death of someone. She seeks help from a life coach named Mitch who wants nothing to do with her crazy ass, claiming that is far beyond his area of expertise and just wants her out of his air. Mitch has his own problems, and the incident of his sisters death being brought up constantly by detectives, he has other more important things to worry about.
After weeks of Eden's alter ego stalking him, following him to his house, Mitch realizes this won't be easy. He decides to work with her, and quickly falls under her spell when after meeting her fiery second personality. But even more unexpectedly, finds that Eden, herself unknowingly, has gotten through to him, pricks right through the tough front he's played for so long.

As the story goes on, more deaths occur, more tears escape as Eden believes she is a monster and behind these murders she hears around town. Mitch refuses to believe it but begins to notice a pattern in her alterations. 

 As total opposites they are from each other, he begins to see that she may not be much more different than him. . . he, too, fights a beast inside.  The chemistry between them is EXPLOSIVE. They grow closer and closer as the days go by as they try to unravel what's behind the mystery surrounding her condition, behind the deaths in town.

Despite how much of a sarcastic asshole Mitch comes off as, we as the reader, discover he just wants to do what's right, protect others from the evil in him that he doesn't quite understand. I found myself admired by him quite quickly. He's amazing through and through, sweet, passionate, and protective. DEFINITELY a high mark on my list of Book Boyfriends!

The evil masterminds  behind the suspicious events, slowly begin to reveal themselves . . . The Clinic. This is when things get more wild by the second, and we have to begin worrying what is to come of their fate?
This is one of those reviews where I back-pedaling in my typing, deleting like mad and shouting at myself to shut up and not spoil anything LOL! I HIGHLY recommend this, dark and exciting novel to anyone who loves a great Urban fantasy and refreshing twists on classics. Believe me, you haven't read a re-telling like this one.

Sky's thoughts: I absolutely love this story!  HOT HOT HOT! We are provided with an exhilarating story chock-full of action, lust, and mystery as we follow heroine Lexia on her journey as she makes a new discovery in a moment of desperate survival. She has no idea what's happening to her or what she's becoming, but she feels the certain darkness that begins to overwhelm her soul.

I am always a sucker for panther -- or any feline for that matter-- shape shifter. So I was incredibly happy with a new dangerous hero to be added on to the very prestigious list of book boyfriends we adore! He's protective, handsome, and sure knows how to make a girl sweat.

There are many hardships Lexia is forced to overcome as soon she learns more about her history, her mother, what she is. You have to feel sorry for her, everything around her is just crumbling with this new found darkness that she just cannot control. What she would give to just go back to living a normal life, giggling over mundane and other girly things with her best friend Alice, and go back to living her quiet life with her single father.

After certain events, the darkness pulls her in, and this is where I am excited to see what happens next! We will be anxiously waiting over at the Booknatics, just LOVED this story!

Rachel has a VERY promising career ahead of her as an author, and I am excited to see where this series takes us, the reader, as well!
She know's what really captures a girls heart when it comes to a book, and she writes it WELL!

 

 

 

 

Krystles thoughts: I was given this early release copy by the author for an honest review and.....I freakin loved it!!!  This is Rachel Raithby's debut book, and it really seems like she's been writing for years; it was that good!

Lexia seems like your normal/basic teenager that's about to graduate, until 3 vampires corner and attack her; she knows her life is over then from out of nowhere she realizes that she has these 'Superhuman Traits' and is able to defeat them with her bare hands. Off in the distance, a shifter-panther named Lincoln watches and can't believe what he's seeing. A Hunter.... Who's trained to kill off his kind.. He wants to kill her, but he wants to learn a little bit about her first so he starts hanging around, pretending to be passing thru town. What he wasn't expecting was for Lexia to be so alive, so to speak, you'll know what I mean when you read his meaning for her, and he falls for her.

 

The chemistry that these two have for each other is OHMIGOD!!! It was pretty hot! Like...Really hot! I was not expecting that at all, reading along, reading, reading....and whoa...WHOA!!! I loved it! :) I liked Lexia's Best friend Alice as well, hopefully we'll see more of her in the next book since she's now a huge part of Lex's and Linc's supernatural world.

I really loved how Ms. Raithby had Lincoln able to shift at will, and he could become part panther, instead of full on panther. For instance, his claws would rip thru his fingertips so he could climb as human form, etc... That was pretty neat and different, also loved how he would light up all over when he did shift. When Lexia would go in 'Hunter Mode' I swear, I could picture her becoming more buff, taller, faster, just deathly with her eyes blazing yellow. She described the fight scenes very well, I could picture them all fighting in my head like watching a movie.. Let's just say that I hope Lexia's evil B**** mother gets what she deserves, HA!

Review by Sky: Beautiful Monster by Bella Forrest

It was the cover that first captivated me. I felt a pull, a need to discover the story withheld in the loving, embracing expressions. The title just makes it even more intriguing. Though later as you read on, you realize the characters aren't portrayed as described. It doesn't affect the story line, though.
The synopsis grabbed me as well, my love for theater is a great one, vampires and theater! Different, yet curious!

This is one of those fantastical stories where two complete opposites collide and love blossoms right before them. Beautiful Monster makes a completely unique dive into the paranormal world, as this whole story takes place at a popular performing academy. It's one of the biggest performing schools in the nation, and a complete dream school for Amy. Only thing holding her back, her father and her impending doom of HIV.
Amy has been sneaking into the academy pretty much half of her life, when her father leaves for work, who works there as a chef. This very school is what developed her passions for performing and spent all her free time home schooled hours studying different techniques and making friends around the world who share the same ambition.
Amy suffers from HIV, carried from her mother at birth, and lives a sheltered and poor life. Her father is over paranoid of losing her and won't allow her to do a single that that would exert more energy than needed -- not even a quick walk down too the grocery store. Though, Amy finally had enough with that, she began to spend longer days at the theater, refusing to let her life dully fade away. But this particular day, call it what you will, wrong time at the wrong place, or... right... Amy is trapped in a swarm of people headed for the backstage for the Scholarship contest program. Her destiny ties her fate when she can't seem to get pass the crowd and is ushered by the professors to get back stage and wait her part. Realizing this is exactly what she wanted...she takes the dive.

Then there's Liam, who is the hot, young, Hollywood grandson of retired school headmaster, and holds a dark, deep, and dangerous secret. When he takes over the business for his grandfather and sets out to cast the roles of the schools first scholarship program of the year play, Beauty and The Beast, he sees the beautiful girl Amy glide across the stage. He has no idea Amy is not actually a student at his school, but is captivated by her beauty, expertise, and... something off with the scent of her blood. He's dead set on her, and casts her as his Belle.

Who would ever suspect a shy, outsider girl would captivate the heart of Hollywood's most talented heart throb? Trouble arises when she discovers his dark secret, hearing his cry in the middle of night... Her handsome man, transitioned into a terrifying, black eyed monster, chained to the wall of the schools basement cellar. He spills out his heart  but she stays huddled across the room, unable to speak, or think, absolutely no idea how to react.
It takes a Twilight turn when word gets out that Liam's sire is headed for their town, to confront him of his crime of sharing the vampires world to a human girl.

The end of the books keeps you wondering what's to become of their relationship, will he turn her into a vampire, and will any more lives be lost?

I rated this book 4 stars.
Beautiful story, with lovable, real characters, and a unique setting. Forrest tells an enchanting story in such a creative, almost poetic manner.

A Booknatic Hangout: Shadow of Hope by Tina Pollick and Elizabeth Rose

*Hidden away in an undisclosed oak tree, Krystle, Sky, and other friends prepare the setting for their weekly hangout to talk about their latest reads. The lively sound of laughter and chimes of wine glasses fill the air around them. The birds are perched in the boughs that surround the cozy house, with a joyful song that seemingly drifts in with the warm breeze through the open windows. A blissful night with friends couldn’t get any better!*

 
Sky: Alright ladies!  Tonight, Krystle and I would love to start the night with a special book. Tina Pollick and Elizabeth Rose were kind enough to give us an early read of their debut novel as co-authors, and we’ve been eager to share it with you guys!

Krystle: *takes a seat next to Sky on the sofa and nods as she takes a sip from her wine*  You guys are going to love this!

 Sky: The book starts of mysteriously, with a woman and her ‘chosen ones’.  They call her Mother. Mother claims to hold the vessel of Humanity’s Last Hope. Though is sounds cryptic, she explains to her men in hoods, they are chosen for their special abilities to guard and protect it at all costs. There will be a time when humanity will be in danger, though she not exactly sure when, she knows it’s bound to be soon.

Krystle: The whole thing is brilliant, really.  It has a mixture of different religions and beliefs. Wiccan, Christian, etc,.

Sky: and even Greek Mythology!
 
*Almost in harmony, the girls all let out a fascinated “Ooo!”*

Krystle: Sounds like Sky got her Mythology fix! *laughs*

Sky: *in mid sip of her wine, nods enthusiastically*

*giggles all around*
 
Krystle: It was a fantastic idea, the whole Wicca party of it, haven't read many "witchy" type of books really, though I do love any show related to witchcraft. Fun. I love any kind of Greek god added to any book. I am so hooked!

 Sky: For any fans of either genre, you will not be left disappointed with the characters and their abilities. We also have a few more hunks to add to the book boyfriend list, but I’ve claimed Lucian!

Krystle: I claim Evan!

Sky: *laughs*
 Friend 1: Wait a minute! No way, there’s no claiming anyone till we all get a good read!

Friend 2: Yeah, aren’t you ladies running out of space in your book boyfriend vault? Give those guys some room to breathe!

Sky: Hmmm, we’ll work on trades later *winks* Maybe...
*deviously takes a sip of her wine, a big one*

 Krystle: So who was your favorite characters, and who are you staking your claim on?

Sky: Lucian! Hands down.
I have to admit that I felt awful for Lucian the whole story. He gave up his previous life, and you can just feel the regret with almost every scene, as he often wondered what life could have been like if he wasn’t in servitude of such an evil man. He’s heroic, intelligent, and handsome *winks*

 Krystle: Yes, I did feel badly for Lucian, tricked into his life by Aries. *frowns*

Sky: Man oh man, I sympathized for him the entire time. He dreamt of the “What if’s” always stuck in enslavement for a malevolent man, to never be treated with respect, always feeling undeserving.

 Friend 2: So who captured him?

 Sky: Not that he was captured or anything, but he was tricked into a life to serve the God of War. Aries. Lucian was one of the hooded men chosen by The Mother to guard the vessel.

 Krystle: He was lounging about by an old tree, when Aries approached him. And Aries was *not* in the mood to be cheerful. Trust me.

 Sky: Was absolutely pissed off at the Mother, and he was going to do anything it took to get that vessel from her guard. And he does so, by starting with persuading Lucian to join him, to turn his back on his brothers. Lucian Agrees, and both are set off for the mission. The mother, brings the vessel to Aphrodite to take and hide with it after a series of attacks have been made on her men. Shortly after, that's when we are taken to Chicago, modern day.

 Krystle: Here, we meet Zoe, who works for a vet and is the current protector of the “Gateway”. Although, at the time she has no clue. All she knows is that she wears a locket around her neck that has sentimental value to her. After her mother's death, her father sent her to be raised by her mother’s siblings (a coven of Wiccans), out in the country in their farm house.

Sky: At some point, after Aries and Lucian finally managed to get their hands on the vessel from the Mother, and realize it's not as simple as attaining the vessel. They soon realize they will also need the key to the gateway. Another mission Aries and Lucian are sought off to accomplish.

Krystle: One night after work, Zoe notices something isn't right and sees she's about to be ambushed by one of Aries and Lucian. She gets away from him only to be manhandled by another man, Evan, a Templar, and once in the safey of the house, he admits to being her life long protector as well.

Sky: Manhandled *dreamy sigh*

Krystle: *laughs and nudges Sky playfully with her elbow* Back off, chick. Don’t you forget who owns the keys to his shackles!

 Sky: Don’t forget who has a copy of that key!

 Krystle: *gasps, playfully astonished* Woman! No more chocolate for you!

Sky: *Falls back laughing, spilling some wine on her blouse* Gah! Dangit!

Krystle: That's clearly a sign you are in the wrong!

Sky: Nothing a Greek God can't fix for me. That's why I keep them around! *snaps her fingers playfully beckoning a Book boyfriend*

Friend 3:  Oh, was I not supposed to make a copy of the master key I found?  Well, I am not giving it back. I had a peek of Evan too, and I am so not giving this baby up.

*the girls all giggle wildly*

 Krystle: You know, if they ever did a movie for this or something, I could see Evan as kind of a skinnier type of Chris Hemsworth... at least his deep voice.... *laughs*

 Sky: I’ll never see you again if that were the case, you’d have that shit on repeat! I see it now! *laughs*

 Krystle: Go Thor Go!!! *laughs again* Really though, I liked Evan. He was bound to his duties and was loyal to them without question and how he kept Zoe’s ass in check a few times when she was all, Me, Me, Me.

 Sky: I agree! I felt for his struggle between making his grandfather proud of keeping his duties in check and battling the emotions he felt for Zoe after all those years he watched her grow up. What were your thoughts on Zoe?

 Krystle: I would have liked to see more of Zoe learning how to hone in on her powers throughout the book. This was my first "Witchy/Wiccan" type of read and I really like the idea of it. After she learns how to master them I'm sure she'd be a pretty bad-ass Wiccan. What did you think about her relationship with her father?

 
Sky: I was a tad emotional when it came to their scenes together. I could identify with Zoe and her emotions easily as she let her father back in her life. I can imagine the surprise she felt as she saw him standing at the front door, wanting to kill Evan for inviting him. *chuckles loudly* But all in all, I rooted for them the entire time. What other characters did you like?

 Krystle: Also liked the two Coven sisters Crystal and Daisy. They seemed cute and goofy…

 Sky: Agreed. For older chicks, they certainly were badass! What about Zoe’s and Evans relationship? It was so rocky at first. Then we are mind blown in the end.

Krystle: Oh, I know, right! She and Evan had an extremely heavy case of a Love/Hate relationship, but I am glad it worked out in the end.

Sky: Talk about one hell of a power couple, eh?

Friend 2: Ugh. This already sounds interesting. Sounds like a good world buildup and I can tell the characters stuck with you guys, must really be a great read.

Friend 1: Yes! A good relationship with the characters is so important. You both are practically glowing gushing about them!

Sky: Indeed! Every character plays such a vital part in this story. I really appreciate that, and there are no loose ends! Each character has a significance to thicken the plot and heighten the adventure.

 Krystle: Yes! It had strong character building with a lot of back story. Doesn’t leave you questioning anything in between.

Sky: I just know you guys will enjoy this story. The authors really did a great job with stringing together an epic tale with their knowledge and research on such an extensive genre.  

 Krystle: Definitely, a job very well done!

 Friend 2: *pulls out her Kindle* Count me in. What’s it called again?

A Review by Sky: For the Love of a God by Rosanna Leo

I have always been fascinated with the studies of mythology, especially Greek! I find it so compelling to discover books such as this one; which let you live fictionally and vicariously in the eyes of a modern day girl who experiences every geek-girls dream!  

I have to start off by saying, Rosanna Leo certainly is charming, and it shines through her writing radiantly! Her characters are full of SO much life, and the dialogue between characters will have you in giggling fits. And I know I am not the first to say, but I undoubtedly identified with Maia, (our lead character) and that bond/connection is one of the best affairs for a reader to experience. She’s pretty awkward, but she’s deeply passionate about the things and people she keeps close, has her own sense of style of clothing choice and not a care what people think of it, and just so much more, I adore her!

Maia works as a conservator and expert in the Ancient Greek department of a Museum she grew up in as her father had worked there. Ever since she was five years old, she had a strange infatuation for a particular statue, her favorite piece which began her peculiar crush on the mythical Greek God of love, Eryx.  She even swore it would wink at her at times and found herself speaking to the statue as if it were an actual person. Maia grows up to be an intelligent and devoted woman, a true expert on everything Greek. The story takes an interesting turn for Maia when the new Museum director, Lord Eric, arrives and has a striking semblance to the man of her dreams. (Literally)

She thinks she must be going crazy, it couldn’t possibly be him. He’s only myth…right? As soon as he arrives, the department is being turned upside down, and layoffs are happening left and right. Maia fears she may be next, but Lord Eric begins to act strange around her. Almost as if this insanely gorgeous man… was attracted to her? Maia feels like she really must be going insane.  She’s so clouded by her insecurities she can’t comprehend the fantasy becoming reality, and as we find out Lord Eric can’t even explain why he’s so drawn to her.  He proves to her his identity and romance buds right before our eyes, but when we the reader least expect it, the plot really thickens.

A sick and deranged Goddess has it out for Eryx, beholding an ancient grudge. She will do whatever it takes to separate the lovers to leave Eryx’s heart in shambles forever. The thrill is edge-of-your-seat intense, leaving you rooting and praying for everything to turn out alright between the star-crossed lovers.

As a lover of mythology and romantic affairs, Leo did not disappoint. It’s everything I imagined for a modern day woman who lives with her head in the clouds, who ever had a wish for something she so desired to come true. Oh, if only we could all have our own Greek God.  

I really rather not spoil the greatness of this book, so the cryptic last paragraph will just have to do for you till you read it! Believe me when I tell you, fellow mythology nerds, if you love romance with spice and lore, this charismatic book is something you do NOT want to miss.

KMM FAN CHAT: Fever Series: Christian vs Ryodan

And the battle begins!
This is no, "Team Jacob, Team Edward" kiddie stuff! This is real men fighting for a fabulous and strong girl of worth.
 But, as a reader, we are well enveloped into the story, and we all have our different wishes when it comes to love triangles.
 I giggle all the time when I am on Goodreads chatting with different Fever Fans because we are all divided by the man who we wish will ultimately win the heart of Dani Mega O'Malley.
As much as I (Sky) don't want to share Christian, I feel Dani and Christian would make one kick ass team. I know a lot of concerns are the changes he's going through becoming an Unseelie Prince, but we've already seen him struggle between the decisions between the dark and light and he's full aware of what's happening to him which can benefit him in remaining to hold on to what's left of his humanity.
 I have faith his adoration for Dani will pull him through for the better. Maybe I am too much of a hopeless romantic, but I have faith that KMM's genius mind will give him the character development he deserves.
In the comments below, you'll see my opinions of why, but the gist of my feelings is that he's not as strict with her, his powers and her skill combined could be an asset in this war to take back Dublin, and the stronger the bond, they better they could be, his faith in her skill and let's her do as she pleases with no pressure to fight in the midst of the battle as where Ryo holds her back so much, he's overbearing and overprotective, it's almost patronizing and insulting to the strength that this girl really holds!
 I know character development can go both ways with both leading heroes, who knows, maybe Ryo will soften up a bit for those of you who are rooting for him! But I'd rather him be a protector, a brother, of Dani in a non romantic way. Yes, I read it! He has feelings for her, but I am keeping my fingers crossed he comes to a revelation and realizes she can hold up herself, and just be there for her as a friend, a partner in crime.
Can you imagine the things Christian and Dani can do in battle together?! Talk about one hell of a power couple!

Review : The Colour Wielders by Dawna Raver

I enjoyed the Hell out of this book!!!! It's so much fun, I love the concept of it. Fantasy mixed with romance and some mystery.... Epic Win for me, I know a lot of others out there who will like this as well.

 

Starts out with the heroine Quinn “losing it” to a man she thinks she's in love with named Thaene on her birthday. Poor girl never knew what hit her. Turns out Thaene is a “Changeling” A gross practically faceless looking creature who can morph himself to look like anyone/anything. He's trying to awaken Quinns Magyk that resides within her. Quinn has no idea what's going on, two minutes ago all she knew was that she's just a mortal girl losing her virginity to a guy she thought she loved/was in love with her. Now he's holding a knife to her throat, calling her princess, and demanding she show him her Magyk so they can go free some guy named Moincata and live out their days together for eternity.. Meanwhile a mysterious NFL size man materializes in the room all dressed in medieval garb holding a broadsword and tells Thaene to let go of his daughter..

That's a hell of a prelude to a story dont'cha think? :)

So you have the hunky Hero of the book Arik, son of Týr- God of War, and nephew to Loki - God of Mischief. He's a bit of an outcast in the Magykal Realm, used to be Adviser to the King, but after an incident he left and has yet to declare his allegiance. He's walking a fine line between light and dark Magyk. People are talking as to whether he'll follow in his mothers steps and embrace the Dubh Magyk (Dark) or stick to Soluis Magyk (light).. Altho he has this side to him that helps the Bizarrelings, ran the High Kings brother Kaelin. A Bizarreling is a Magykal who has been banned from living in the Magykal Realm. You'll read about why they're banned..

So why's this hunky bad boy who's putting on a show that he's going dark helping them? He doesn't have me fooled.. =)

Thru the first part of the book you have a lot of information being given to you to help create the history and world building for Flaitheas Draíochta (Magykal Realm) and all of the Magykals. Which by the way she does an excellent job at doing. As I was reading it I could play it in my head like a movie. And it was so beautiful! I love anything that has to do with Fantasy.

I loved the battle scenes, the relationship that Quinn and her brother Iain have (hope to see more of him in the next book, especially after his awakening), and the chemistry that Arik and Quinn have with each other. He fights the feelings he has for her so hard in the beginning, but love conquers all. The half Druid in him made sure of that ha! Cannot wait to see what happens next from the suspenseful ending we had with Morgana, Arik and Quinn!!! Just wait for Quinn's awakening, I know she'll be one powerful Magykal..
