The Suit
by B N Toler
What happens when two dreams collide?
Fed up with the farm life and his one-time love of training horses, John Wilson has traded his tattered boots and jeans for power suits and cufflinks. Through hard work and determination, John has just graduated from law school and is focused on a fresh start. Refusing to let his bitter past hinder his future, John is intent on moving forward with his new life. Except there’s one last thing he has to do—settle old debts before he can truly move on. Unfortunately, settling debts involves him returning to a life he’s worked hard to forget. A mind-numbing summer working on a horse farm awaits him, and he’s dreading every damn minute of it. Edie James is mourning the loss of her grandfather when John Wilson shows up in his perfectly tailored suit, reeking sexiness and city elegance—everything she’s not. Their meeting is less than pleasant as they both distastefully size up one another. She thinks he’s arrogant and a white-collar yuppie. He thinks she’s a simple, goody two-shoes farm girl. Edie’s grandfather made a new will before he passed leaving stipulations in order for Edie to inherit the family farm. And as if that wasn’t enough of a challenge, the suit has to work on the farm with her for three months to settle a debt he owed to her grandfather. And he’s moving in with her. With a rocky start, the two seemingly polar opposites call a truce and attempt to be friends. As their unexpected friendship blooms, an attraction develops and both realize their first impression of each other is far from the truth. Now this once dreaded summer is set to be the hottest and most unforgettable they've ever had.
“Why
do girls like this? You know, cheesy sex books?” I lean on the
island and watch as she begins placing the items from the bag into
the fridge. My eyes inevitably watch her ass the entire time. Her
little hot pink panties are playing peekaboo from under her jeans,
taunting me, as she moves.
“Why
do guys like cheesy porn?” she counters as she shuts the fridge and
whips open a cabinet door. I can’t tell if my questions are making
her uncomfortable, but she seems like this conversation doesn’t
bother her.
“Porn
is different than that.” I nod at the book.
“How
so?” This time she spins around and leans against the counter so
she can watch me answer.
“You
can see it. Naked bodies and such.” I shrug.
“Hmm,”
she mumbles and turns back to the grocery bag. “Porn gives you an
image. You only see what they want you to see. Books let you fill in
the blanks, make it what you want. Books give you the idea of
fantasy, but you get to perfect the lover in your mind. In porn we
watch them touch one another, in a book, with your imagination, it’s
like they’re touching you.”
Her
answer is so in depth and honest, it takes me a moment to respond.
“So, you use these books to…” I stop myself. What the fuck am I
asking her? I just met this girl. My mother would roll over in her
grave if she could see me now. You can’t ask a girl, let alone a
farm girl, if she masturbates to her erotica books. Edie chuckles and
glances at me over her shoulder. “Suit.” She says my nickname I’m
less than thrilled about. “I’m a twenty-three-year-old farm girl
with no boyfriend living in the country. Not that it’s any of your
business, but yes. Sometimes it leads to that.”
My
dick twitches with excitement. She
masturbates.
Sweet mother of Jesus, I’ll never get that fucking image out of my
head. I wonder if she has a vibrator or if she—
“So
listen,” she interrupts my journey on the highway to hell thinking
about her pleasuring herself. “I know we got off to a rocky start,
but I’d like to start over. I have a feeling maybe being here isn’t
your cup of tea and I thought maybe we could at least be friends.”
B.N. Toler really knows how to write a
book and GRAB at your emotions. I fell in love with her writing the
moment I read her first book, and her books are only getting better
and better. I'm grateful for being able to read an early copy in
exchange for an honest review!
This book is about the lives of 2 young
people who go from being perfect strangers to...something quite
opposite!
Edie James is your above-average
country gal whom just lost the last of her family – her
grandfather, who raised her – and now she's worried about if she'll
be able to keep and maintain her farm which is the only thing she's
ever known, and the only thing that matters to her.
She's known by the townsfolk as being a
“good girl” who keeps to herself and knows how to get dirty from
hard work, but as the book goes on, we learn that, that little sweet
country-girl...deeeeefinitely has a bit of a spicy side. And I loved
it!
We find out early in the book that her
late grandfather has other plans for her in an updated will he
prepared without Edie's knowledge. For her to keep the farm, she now
has certain requirements that she'll have to meet, to prove that
she'll be able to handle it. And this, is where “The Suit” walks
into her life.
Johnny Wilson, a young and very driven
aspiring lawyer knew Edie's grandfather Bud from years ago, and now
Bud has a favor to ask of Johnny. A simple task of repaying a debt by
going back to doing what he hated most from his childhood...working
on Edie's farm...just thru the summer...90 short days...WHILE living
in the same house as Edie...with 1 major demand – hands off Bud's
innocent granddaughter, Edie James. Ooooh at first this was going to
be a simple task since they each hated each other, but as time went
on, they began to learn more about and get to know one another, and
before you know it, those 90 short days of summer weren't going to be
enough.
I loved the banter that Edie and Suit
had with each other; the scene where Edie walked in on him reading
thru one of her romance novels cracked me up!!! I would so love to
catch one of my guy friends doing that. But after they get to know
each other a little better, she uses the fact that she caught him
reading her naughty book to her advantage, and comes up with a
fantastically sexy idea. And it is HOT! Good stuff, and very
different!
The toast that Nikki says to Edie as
they're sitting at the bar, that's one that I'll have to remember for
sure! There's been so many instances that this saying would apply
perfectly to.
This book was awesome, and smoking hot!
Can't wait to read what happens next with this series!
About the Author
B N Toler lives in Virginia with her epic husband, Toler. and their three rowdy children. When she's not reading and writing, she's thinking about reading and writing. She loves music,(bluegrass, country, 80's, actually she loves most music ~her favorite song is American Pie by Don McLean and she worships anything that is Elvis and Johnny Cash and Eric Church) dancing, (even though she sucks at it)reading, writing, eating (too much) sleeping late, (which she rarely gets to do) and laughing. If you can make her laugh, she will love you forever. Random and insignificant facts: She is addicted to Coca Cola She hates onions She loves thunderstorms She wants to have Karen Marie Moning's babies She curses....a lot...like way too much She's immensely afraid of snakes She fangirls over M.Pierce She HATES reality television She could eat her weight in Snickers candy bars She loves books and movies that make her cry She cries over anything remotely sad She loves the Lord She LOVES Jack Daniels and Ginger Ale. (too much) She hopes she hasn't bored you to death.
